New Screening Procedures to Enter Wisteria Place
October 24th, 2021

Dear Residents, Family Members, Team Members, and all Visitors,

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic (March 2020) in British Columbia (BC) the Ministry of Health, in consultation with the BC’s Provincial Health Officer, mobilized to rapidly respond to the risk of Covid-19 transmission in congregate care settings. Several enhanced protective measures have been put in place to minimize the risk for introduction and transmission of Covid-19 in long-term care homes, and seniors’ assisted living residences.

On October 18th, 2021, they have now included Independent Living. This is to protect those most vulnerable to serious illness. We, at Wisteria Place, have embraced this new announcement and will be taking a more serious approach to this pandemic to protect our community.

Please note that all team members and residents currently in the building are double vaccinated. We are also delighted to advise you that we held on October 20, 2021, a Flu Clinic held on-site by the local Super Grocer here from Stevenson to administer the flu shot “Flulavel tetra Quadrivalent” dose of 0.05ml.  We had 90% participation with residents and team members. Further updates will occur when we have a clinic for the Booster shot. More details to come on this in the future by myself (General Manager).

On October 12th, 2021, the Provincial Health Officer and the Ministry of Health announced updated requirements for visitation in long-term care and seniors’ assisted living facilities. In recognition of the added layer of protection provided by the COVID-19 vaccines and given the vulnerability of residents in long-term care and seniors assisted living even when fully immunized themselves, all visitors (both essential and social visitors) are now required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, excluding children under 12 years or those with an approved medical exemption. Proof of vaccination (e.g. BC Vaccine Card or equivalent) is required prior to entering or passing through the facility.

At Wisteria Place commencing on October 29th, 2021, we have a system in place for everyone entering the building who is not a resident. Below is the following breakdown of entry into our building. Everyone entering the building must be double vaccinated and have the BC Services QRC Code and a valid Government Issued Id.

Team Members: Team members will enter through the walkway doors with their designated FOB (key) and self-sign in answering all Covid-19 questions and proceed to the time clock to punch in. If team members require keys, they will then proceed to Concierge Desk. Team members will take their own temperature and, on the iPad, scan in their QRC Code as well.

Visitors: Visitors will proceed to the outside intercom system and buzz “Concierge” who will screen with several questions prior to letting them enter the building. Visitors will proceed to the Concierge Desk where they will show their QRC Code to be scanned, a valid piece of government ID, and will take their temperature. Visitors will then register into the designated “Visitor Book” with their name and phone number.

• Care Professionals: Care professionals will proceed to the outside intercom system and buzz “Concierge” who will screen with several questions prior to letting them enter the building. Care professionals will proceed to the Concierge Desk where they will show their QRC Code to be scanned, a valid piece of government ID, and take their temperature. Care professionals will then register into the designated “Visitor Book” with name, phone number, company, resident name, and suite number.  A key will be provided if required for a resident and be signed out.

• Movers: Movers will proceed to the outside intercom system and buzz “Concierge” who will screen with several questions prior to letting them enter the building. Movers will proceed to the Concierge Desk where they will show their QRC Code to be scanned, a valid piece of government ID, and will take their temperature.   Movers will then register into the designated “Contractor Book” with their name, phone number, and company name. Movers will be walked to the “Designated Service Elevator” which will be blocked off for the moving time. Under no circumstances can the main two (2) elevators be used for moving any furniture or items. We will also advise movers on location on where to park moving trucks. At no time, can movers block the main entrance, as this is to always remain clear for an emergency vehicle or drop off or pick up of residents.

• Contractors: Contractors will proceed to the outside intercom system and buzz “Concierge” who will screen with several questions prior to letting them enter the building. Contractors will proceed to the Concierge Desk where they will show their QRC Code to be scanned, a valid piece of government ID, and will take their temperature. Contractors will then register into the “Designated Contractor Book” with their name, phone number, and company. A key will be signed out and provided to contractors dependent on what service they need to perform.

Residents, we ask that when a family member comes to the building that you do not let them into the building without getting screened first with Concierge to come to see you. Please keep the door closed unless you are exiting the building only. If you are coming back to the building and family or visitors want to enter, they must get screened out first and cannot come directly into the building with you.

Thank you everyone for your continuing understanding and cooperation as we take a more serious approach to implement these new steps to mitigate the transmission of Covid-19 in our building as the Delta variant continues to strike other care homes in British Columbia again. As stated before, we are in a challenging time during this pandemic but safety is our number one priority for this residence.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at [email protected] should you have any specific questions.

Regards,
