Your Senior Years, Your Way:
Planning a Life That Reflects You
Change
brings new opportunities to grow, explore, and live
with purpose. Your senior years can be a time of
joy, creativity, and connection, shaped by your
choices and what matters most to you. At Optima
Living, we see aging as a celebration of experience
and possibility. A chance to create a life that
feels vibrant, fulfilling, and truly your own.

September 30 was National
Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
At Optima Living, we pause
to reflect, honour, and reaffirm our commitment to
truth, justice, and reconciliation with Indigenous
peoples across the lands now known as British
Columbia and Alberta.
Our communities stand on the
traditional territories of diverse Indigenous
Nations and Peoples. We recognize, respect, and
honour their history.
Reconciliation is not a
moment, but a movement—one we carry forward
together.
Celebrating Healthcare Aide Day
This Healthcare Aide Day, we
celebrate the incredible caregivers who bring
compassion, comfort, and joy to every moment of
care.
For Healthcare Aide Nanou
Suamy, those moments of connection are what matter
most: “Even when their memory fades, they still
remember me. They look at my face and smile — it
feels like a prize.”
From gentle smiles to
meaningful connections, our Healthcare Aides make a
difference in the lives of our residents every day.
We are so thankful for your hard work.
Revolutionizing Senior Care:
Optima
Living and the University of Alberta Spark a
Transformative Partnership
We’re excited to share
this meaningful partnership between the
University of Alberta’s Division of Geriatric
Medicine and Optima Living! Led by Dr. Adrian
Wagg, our four years of collaboration have been
dedicated to advancing dementia care, knowledge
sharing, and healthy aging in Canada. Together,
Optima Living and the University of Alberta are
translating research into practice, improving
quality of life for residents, and shaping the
next generation of senior care in Canada.
Here’s
to continued innovation, compassion, and
partnership in redefining what it means to age
well.
Community improves every
aspect of life, including your health!
Did you know that being
surrounded by a great community has a wide range
of benefits for your physical health? In fact,
research has indicated that people who belong to
strong communities tend to have lower blood
pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and a lower
risk of obesity. They are also more likely to
exercise regularly and eat a healthy
diet!
Our residents celebrated the
Festival of Lights by crafting their own beautiful
diyas (lanterns) and learning about the meaning
behind Diwali and Bandi Chhor Diwas.
Both festivals teach us that
no matter how hard the journey of truth and goodness
may be, the outcome is always filled with light and
positivity.
Recently, we celebrated our
fourth anniversary since we opened our doors with a
grand celebration alongside our residents, team
members, and families. We also welcomed home members
of the Steveston Buddhist Temple, including new
temple president Doug, as well as Leanne, our
Regional Operations Manager, and Calvin, our
Executive Director of Finance. Residents cut the
cake to mark the occasion, and we all enjoyed a
delicious salmon barbecue, our last of the season,
perfectly timed with the fall equinox! The afternoon
was filled with laughter, a touching slideshow of
memories, and beautiful piano music that made the
day truly grand.
Happy Thanksgiving from our
family to yours! This season reminded us of the
love and joy that family and community bring. We
were thrilled to host a big community Thanksgiving
brunch at Wisteria Place, filled with laughter,
warmth, and cherished moments shared with residents,
their families, and friends.
True love at first sight:
Wisteria resident Ruth shares her story about
meeting the love of her life in high school, as well
as her secret to achieving 64 years of a successful
marriage. Straight out of a Nicholas Sparks book.
